WE ARE BUT THE CHOICES WE MAKE
The pursuit of finding sustainable fabrics, both organically cultivated and man made, have been long and exhausting. It is also never ending, since we are always on a quest to figure out what will minimise the harm done to Mother Earth.
Antaratma, initially, was envisioned as an all-white, sustainable, ethical men’s-only shirt brand. The discovery of a wide variety of interesting, less-heard-of, plush fabrics, soothing colours, and Ayurvedic and harmful-chemical-free dyeing processes, however, transformed the vision of Antaratma into a colour-friendly, sustainable, ethical, ‘Something-For-Everyone’ brand.
AYURVEDIC COTTON
Premium organic cotton treated with Ayurvedic potions—blends of herbs for shade, mordant, and medicinal benefits—in a highly sustainable process. Luxurious with a subtle sheen, this fabric is unbelievably soft on the skin, embodying a harmonious fusion of nature and comfort.
HEMP
We use premium Hemp fabric that is sustainable. Hemp is derived from Cannabis sativa L plant (no, not weed) and is considered a grade better than linen. It is organically grown, very soil friendly, and inherently antimicrobial. Hemp is long lasting, is very breathable, and gets softer with every wash. Hemp fabrics we use are dyed using azo-free dyes.
TENCEL™
Derived from sustainably-managed forests, Tencel™ fabric is of botanic origin. Strong and smooth, it is certified safe, inhibits bacterial growth, and is gentle on the skin. Embracing sustainability, this biodegradable fabric combines strength and softness in a harmony of eco-conscious comfort.
ORANGE FIBRE FABRIC
Orange Fibre fabric is an innovative and sustainable textile crafted from citrus by-products. Extracted from discarded orange peels, it transforms waste into fashion. With a silky texture, it's not only environmentally conscious but also offers a unique blend of style and eco-friendly ethos, redefining fashion with citrus-infused elegance.
DYEING PROCESS
We work with suppliers who share our vision of sustainability and environment friendliness. All our garments are free from harmful chemicals.
Organic cotton we use is dyed naturally using Ayurvedic herbs, making the already smooth fabric buttery smooth and gentle on the skin.
We source other fabrics from suppliers who deploy harmful-chemical-free dyeing processes, and are Oeko Tex certified.
TRIMS
Since the beginning of our production phase, we have been trying our best to use sustainable trims – coconut-shell buttons, cotton/organic cotton or recycled polyester sewing threads, cotton elastics and zippers, and more. We also try our best to design garments that use minimum non-eco friendly trims. We haven’t gotten there yet but are doing all that we can to get there as swiftly as possible.
LABELS
We use only organic cotton labels and printed using eco-friendly dyes. This runs a risk of the printing fading away, and our brand mark disappearing from the garments, but we choose not to force brand recall at the cost of the environment. In case you notice the colour of the labels fading, be rest assured it is not a sign of inferior quality, but a mark of being eco friendly.
